The slab of stone was planted on a tree that has now towered over the Unity park 50 metres tall in height. Almost 300 years have passed since my ancestor, The First Peony of Huawan and Pirate Queen Shao Yan, proclaimed such a statement of what was otherwise known as the largest conflict between the two kingdoms, one that scarred itself in the deep pages of Peonic history. I wonder why such statements are once again under fire, after years of healthy relations and the passing by of conflict. I always forget that such things of politics fluctuate quite unnervingly, I guess it is reasonable to be afraid of the unreasonable? Provides more time to prepare. The Lord Commodore is rarely mistaken in his predictions, as of which he had predicted that turbulence is abundant. Government Island. An unusual piece of land. Yes, an anomaly. And quite fitting for the topic of the meeting. Developing long-range weapons with such an aggressive dictatorship... hopefully only a single anomaly in the foreign policy of Huawan. The Sedunnic king Vimmru pulled down the shade and put on his seat belt as the official government airplane started its descent.
Foreign minister Gjieramm did the opposite on the other side of the aisle. He had been sleeping all the way and let the light reflected by the mostly empty ocean on the other side of the window meet his tired eyes. Saying the last weeks had been busy was certainly not an understatement, and he took every chance he got to get some rest. Together with members of their respective staff they were the Sedunnic delegation, landing on Government Island.
Government Island, the home of many summits and events that need to be completely neutral. It has deep historical significance to be common neutral ground that no one has dared to invade it. Its government composed of a tiny police force volunteers and nationless citizens. It housed a large hall where summits have taken place.
I remembered that this is also the place where sister of Shao Yan, Shao Feng, fell in love with a Sedunnic naval captain called Mats Bakkallu. A turning point that ended such an escalating conflict in the region's waters. A marriage that inspired a truce. Is it fate that we are to be brought here once more? I have absolutely no idea. The Peony shook hands with the Sedunnic King in front of the press. Quite a firm handshake was given to the King, something that The Peony learnt from her grandfather. It was a warm handshake, and she hopes it won't be cold. It was actually the second time The Peony had met King Vimmru, he usually sent his deputies and ministers to negotiate with the Peocracy, and likewise The Peony would send usually a stream of delegates to negotiate with Sedunn. Vimmru answered with a concerned look on his face.
"We strongly believe in democracy and human rights. We have always respected the sovereignty of other nations and their right to shape their own fate. Bruuma is an oppressive regime. They harshly cling to power, and have more recently tried to expand their influence abroad, like their invasion of Erinor. We are both surprised and disappointed that the Peocracy has increased its cooperation with Bruuma. Sedunn will always stand with the democracies and those who respect human rights. We must ensure that our technology never ends up in the hands of that regime so that they can continue to threaten other countries, further and further away from Bayougrad. This is the reason why we will restrict exchange with the Peocracy concerning technology and knowledge related to computers, IT, aviation and space. Why do you want to help the Bruuman regime to grow more powerful?"

We shall also lend you a couple of naval military assets and access to Nesvem Bay military base." Overseas Territory Governor of Zhanghai, Professor Linne Atlasia: "To add, The Peocracy shall also provide the Kingdom tax-free exclusive access of the trading point in Zhanghai Qitou, which shall cheapen its trade from outer regions in the north and northeast for two years" The Peony, Doctor Yan: "What say you, milord?"

Foreign minister Gjieramm spoke up first.
"Bruuma is decades behind when it comes to military, aviation and space technology. Many nations around the world have been launching their own satellites for over 50 years. When it comes to acquiring cheap military equipment and hardware, you will likely find that other nations have a good surplus, but at a much lower moral price." Vimmru nodded and continued. "Until we are certain that Bruuma no longer is willing to break the international laws and when it is willing to grant its people the basic human rights..." Vimmru looked at High Diplomat, Lady Miss Diao Chan, "or indeed when they put out the raging fire that they have started and been fuelling, only then will we be willing to cooperate with them. It is entirely up to Bayougrad when they want to be a part of the international community." Vimmru looked the Peony in her eyes. "Contributing to cementing the regime's power and their efforts to bring their oppression abroad, by helping them research the very means to do so? We will do what we can to ensure that our technology won't be part of that, it comes at a far too high moral price, regardless if we can earn more money trading it with you."
The Peony looked to King Vimmru. In a way she is delighted to have seen someone of proper principles, unlike some that she has met before. It would be much more difficult to sway the Sedunnic delegation of their decision now, and she could definitely haggle to lower the restrictions a bit.
Unfortunately, that would be rather unlikely. She runs scenarios on the alternate dealing that she could perhaps offer to Bruuma if the result may be just one sided. As she runs the scenarios, she looks at her delegation, a bit irritated and some unnerved. Diao Chan bit her pencil discreetly as she had thought she made a colossal mistake on her wording, the tablets of the Peonic delegation flashed some responses of the ministers. Of which, The Peony didn't want to partake on the bittersweet words. Except for two statements made by Minister of Scientific Exploits, Jun Yukihira. One a complaint that The Peony somehow has been putting inside her thoughts, and the other, a prospect. "As if we used everything they created. Our technology are of our and public creation, it's been a long time since a technological cooperation between us that I don't understand why they pride themselves on technology that are little if not of use in our borders." and the other, a prospect. "If they truly are as 'backwards' as the Sedunnic delegation claim, perhaps we can offer to help Bruuma launch a telecommunication satellite?" Now that's a thought. The Peony discussed it with her Imperial Military Advisor, and mentioned the conclusion. "Very well then, to tell you the truth milord that with the annihilation of Sporaltryus and Darkstrait, it leaves little space for Bruuma to proceed with its socialist agenda. Their cooperation in Sereva as well as their aid to support the WPR in the Reizen theatre leaves much to define about them. We can understand why nations in the international community (save Ryccia) would be quite against the Voodoo Republic." Mentioned The Peony, asserting herself, "As one of their key partners however, we deem them professional enough to maintain their end of the deal, so we could persuade them to accept another agreement, one that would not hamper our bilateral relations with other states. If our allies of Sedunn believe that there is little to be accomplished by the Peocracy on having Bruuma aiding our balistic missile research in Valedilene island, then it would provide us with substantial reasoning to look back at these deals and reassess." The Peony's assertion seemed to resonate a bit with her ministers. In a way that only they knew that The Peony wasn't going to be swayed so easily by Sedunn's soft power. "We shall persist with our treaty of non-agression for the sake of Peonic interests, an agreement that we struck with almost a lot of states in the region." Mentioned Lord Zheng He, "we are also going to renew our agreement on naval exercises. It has never been a problem for the past 100 years, we assume it won't be a problem now." "If Sedunn believes that it is entirely up to Bayougrad when they want to be a part of the international community, then it is up to us to protect our interests abroad." "Of course, Peony. We always listen to the sincere and earnest. I am glad that you understand the concerns we have with contributing to Bruuman advancement in military technology. I am also glad that we will be able to continue trading with you, now that we have been assured that there will be no risk that our technology ends up in Bruuman weapons. We understand what you want to accomplish with your deals and agreements with the Bruumans. While we are not in total agreement regarding some key issues, we will accept your choice to sign a treaty of non-aggression with Bruuma and to renew your joint naval exercises. Now, how can Sedunn be of service?"
PAF Grenadier High General, General Roy Mansoor: "Very well, we could have the research on ballistic missiles done with other parties."
People's Premier, Premier Sima Yi: "Other than increasing the channel of trade between our two countries, we perhaps would like Sedunn to invest more assets and stakes in the Eastern Region of Huawan as well as the Overseas Territory of Zhanghai. As we wish to take advantage of the economical prospects in these areas and grow these places for the sake of The Peocracy, our stringent industrial rules may perhaps be a bit laxed for some countries willing to pledge helping us develop these lands." *Zheng He presses his tablet and pulls out a chart on the screen.* High Commodore and Trade Minister, Lord-Admiral Zheng He: "The security of the oceans between the east and the west has been great but the Reizen conflict has made the channel of the security somewhat abundant of foreign conflict. With Bzerneleg, Bruuma, Ryccia, Agot and the Frost Empire placing their military assets in these waters, it would severely hamper the security of the trade channel between the east and west. So as the leading state of the eastern continent, perhaps Sedunn could lead in facilitating a safer connection route between the two continents." Imperial Military Advisor, Lord Roland Young: "We are not sure that Sedunn is willing to establish peaceful with some states but is however, willing to promote their neutrality in the Reizen theatre. We ask that Sedunn set no boots on Reizen and push to maintain negotiations once more. If things do get awry, we ask them to maintain their neutrality and not fan the flames as large as they are now." Minister of Scientific Exploits, Jun Yukihira: "Except in concern of the catra death, we must push a conference to ensure that this asset is never weaponized. They need assistance in having their healthcare system up from scratch, and it is our responsibility as the leading chair of the WF Health Council to ensure that the healthcare system of the entire South Pacific region are up to par. Mitandersfors have over seventy million inhabitants, and an adequate healthcare system is needed in immediacy. Would the Kingdom of Sedunn aid us in providing assistance to Mitandersfors?"

Foreign minister Gjieramm answered the People's Premier Premier Sima Yi first.
"Premier, there are many Sedunnic companies that would be interested in investing and expanding in those regions. Perhaps a trade mission with government officials and company executives can be arranged?" He then turned to High Commodore and Trade Minister, Lord-Admiral Zheng He. "Lord-Admiral, Sedunn devotes significant resources to patrol the traditional trade routes, including the Cross-Pacific one. In general we recommend non-essential traffic to keep a good distance from Reizen. Fortunately, other nations have not intervened unlawfully yet, which of course could complicate the situation. We do not see a need yet for extra actions." King Vimmru spoke up. "Yes. And this is also related to your concerns, Lord Roland Young. Sedunn is committed to the goals and means of the Grovne Peace Conference, meaning we recognise Reizen as Frost territory and advocate that any foreign intervention must be approved by the Frost Empire, the WPR and the RDC. We are in frequent contact with those parties to find a solution where they return to the pact of non-aggression. Also being part of the agreements made in Grovne, Sedunn already has boots on the ground in Reizen. Our special forces carry out missions to take out chemical weapons, related facilities and resources. They also deliver antidotes. Should Sedunn increase its involvement, it would be fully in accordance with international law and per the request of said parties." Gjieramm nodded, then he looked at Minister of Scientific Exploits, Jun Yukihira. "Minister, Sedunn will be glad to do whatever it can to prevent proliferation of the Catra Death and to help develop cures and treatments. If the World Forum can be part of this, it will have our support." Lastly Vimmru answered the Peony. "Sedunn would absolutely be interested in aiding you in providing assistance to Mitandersfors, Peony. I am not familiar with the specific challenges there are, what can we help them with?" |
