[IC] Third-party involvement in the Kalkara War
#21

(01-14-2020, 12:38 AM)Jay Coop Wrote: Hystaigan Defence Minister Arza Bente was on the outskirts of Karelia at MAB Victoria, awaiting the arrival of Flight 225. The defence minister promised Supreme Voice Blisse Starke that he would not disappoint her and the motherland. As such, he made an agreement with Point Rain Armories that he couldn't refuse. In his eyes, the agreement was necessary in order to assure the survival of the motherland and its people.

Flight 225 safely landed at MAB Victoria as both representatives breathed a sigh of relief. Despite their armed escort, the two were afraid the Valkyrians would attempt to shoot them down for trading games arms with the Hystagians. Representative Johann disembarked first as he scanned the air base for their client. Meanwhile Sam ordered the crew to unload a box of arms and one of their prototype tanks off to show the client opening the cargo bay doors.

The Intelligence Directorate-General has determined that Hystaiga was responsible for the 13/6 attack and the jet attack, killing 194 people and injuring many more. We have citizens who will be suffering lifelong health complications as a result of exposure to sarin gas. The Valkyrian people demanded justice and action and we are doing exactly that."

"I ask this because before we move on together, Bzerneleg needs complete reassurance from Valkyria that the facts and evidence gathered, support the conclusion that Hystaiga is behind the attacks."

The Vice President then abruptly interrupted, "Madam Deputy Ambassador, we are ready to support you, our ally, by any reasonable means."

"However, it does not mean that there are no strings attached. We are asking, in exchange for our support and resources for the war, that the Valkyrian government aid Bzerneleg in the denouncement of socialist factions and states, particularly the WPR. And, lastly, that they loosen rules regarding foreign investment in Valkyrian corporations."

If Gerst agreed to such an unauthorised meeting and was discovered, the Valkyrian government would have reason to file criminal charges against her. However, because of the friendly relationship that Sedunn and Valkyria have historically had with each other, she decided to use a few trusted contacts to confirm the letter's veracity. Ultimately, she decided to accept the meeting and left her home at the appropriate time to rendezvous with the Sedunnic ambassador.

Lenn Imniy had always enjoyed exercising, especially outdoors. She had heeded the advice from the Sedunnic Department of Foreign Affairs and regularly changed where she'd run, all to prevent a possible adversary from mapping out her life. This routine would be useful now. The place for the meeting had been chosen with great care by the ETE. It was located a bit off, but not so secluded that being there would raise suspicion.

Imniy looked at her watch, wiping sweat off from her fore head. It was less than two minutes until the former ambassador hopefully would arrive. She started stretching according like she usually did after a long run, then she saw a familiar face.

Gerst and Imniy had met several times before at those diplomatic dinners and other festivities, but she hadn't gotten the chance to exchange more than a few pleasantries. Imniy was nervous, but she wouldn't let it show. Her mother had taught her how play "tough as a thousand billion". She took her phone out of the pocket and paused the load music that had been playing the whole run, then she put the headphones around her neck. She waved at the ambassador and acted surprised. But her joy to see her there was genuine.

Hystaigan defence minister Arza Bente

The Hystaigan defence minister's vehicle approached the parked cargo plane to greet the representatives of Point Rain Armories. Arza Bente was anxious to meet them and receive the cargo, believing that the new arms would turn the tide of war. In no time, his vehicle stopped near the Point Rain Armories representative and Bente headed out to greet him.

"I assure you, Vice President, that your nation has the Valkyrian government's undying support in countering these terrorist groups and regimes. In Margaret Harrison's term as chancellor, our state was one of the first to designate the Workers' Party of Reizen as a terrorist organisation. Now, with regard to rules on foreign investment in Valkyria, could you be more specific as to what rules you would like to see changed?"

"Your state-owned enterprises have a 10% foreign shares cap and 2% max. cap per country. Our business community is very eager to invest in these successful companies, therefore, we wish to see the 2% country cap removed and the foreign shares cap extended to 35%. It is in the interest of both countries to keep the parliamentary authorization process in place, which protects Valkyrian national security."

"I see. I will convey this to the foreign secretary, but I must let you know that the government cannot change these rules without first passing legislation in Parliament that does exactly that. Usually, legislation like this can take months to pass, which assumes that there is support from the government for such a bill. I will keep you informed when our government responds to this proposal."

"These investment changes have the potential to bring Bzerne-Valkyrian relations to a whole new level. I sincerely hope that all legal requirements can be resolved in an expedited, low-profile manner. Under these terms, we are happy to support and assist in Valkyrian military, diplomatic and economic actions." said the Vice President.

"That is good to hear. Again, I will make sure that the foreign secretary hears about this proposal. While we're here, the foreign secretary wants to know how Bzerneleg will respond to the Kalkara War. We hope that Bzerneleg will not communicate with the Hystaigan government in any way."

"Rest assured that Bzerneleg will not make any communication with the Hystaigan government. Communications made from them to us will be forwarded to the Valkyrian authorities for view. On the question of our response to the Kalkara War, we will voice our support publicly for the Valkyrian government. And if needed, we pledge to assist in reasonable actions to protect Valkyrian interests."

"The circumstances could be much better, yes. Nevertheless, it's good to see you. Thank you for coming."

Imniy wiped some sweat from her forehead.

"The war... Yes. Like I said in my letter, Sedunn is concerned about the justification of the invasion. Regardless of how just it is, we still believe that other options should have been explored. We contacted you because we think that you can help us learn more about the circumstances leading to the invasion. And we can help you with this though 'technical means'."

"Should we find evidence that the casus belli was fabricated, Sedunn will be ready to help put pressure on your government to end the hostilities through diplomatic and economic means. We believe that there will be significant support from the international community too. But the most important piece in all of this is you, the people of Vallkyria! If there were another truth than what has been told, the people will surely want their government to end the war."

"What we specifically need is certain people to contact. We need to know where to focus our 'technical' efforts. And any helpful documents you might have access to."

The Sedunnic ambassador smiled warmly.
