Point Rain Armory Flight 225, above Hystagian airspace
Point Rain Armory Representative Johann Gersh sighed as he looked at the manifest again. 250 kt worth of guns, munitions and 10 prototype T-X15s. 'Including the prototypes have to be a mistake' he thought as he reread the manifest intensely. While he was checking the manifest, he heard a voice say, "Easy there Rookie, I know I said to check the manifest but you don't need to check it until you burn your eyes out." Turning to look up he saw his Superior, Samantha "Sam" Atkins return from the cargo hold and taking a seat in front of him. "Sorry boss," Gersh said before continuing, "but I see that there's a discrepancy in the manifest, something about giving the Hystagians 50 of our prototype main battle tanks." "That's not a discrepancy. The Research and Development Division wants combat data on the tanks." She replied bluntly. "But those tanks cost a fortune to build, and with all due respect why can't they just put them through live fire exercises???" responded Gersh. "Well that was my initial thought, but then Doctor Grunwald explained it like this, they may cost a fortune to build, but they'll cost even more to test when we buy arms used in other countries to test their durability. So why waste that money when we can get live results by pitting our prototypes against one of the warring factions." she responded, "I see, but that doesn't explain why we're including them with this shipment. Its clear with the bill that the tanks aren't included with the overall shipment."he responded Atkins sighed as she said, "Well, you and I both know the saying that sometimes you have to take a loss to make it big... This is one of those situations. Imagine if we sold them the prototypes and they proved to be absolute junk during war. Wouldn't you feel ripped off?" "I guess, I would feel cheated," replied Gersh, "See," She said before continuing, "Now seeing as they're doing us a favor by testing out these tanks by putting their soldiers' lives on the line we have to build trust with our clients and ensure that they're money is firmly in our pockets. And in order to do that sometimes we have to take a loss in the pursuit of better gains." A red light flickers on, as a voice of the PA system speaks, "This your captain speaking, Representatives please return to your seats at this time. We will begin our descent to land. Thank you for flying with Cargo Flight 225." (01-13-2020, 10:17 PM)Bzerneleg Wrote: (...) Valkyrian ambassador Vanessa Gerst Immediately before the meeting, Ambassador Gerst spoke with Foreign Secretary Bradley Murphy by telephone. She made her opposition to the war clear to the foreign secretary, but confessed that the only reason why she stayed on as ambassador is because of her faith that Murphy would help lead the new Coalition with a steady foreign policy. However, Gerst did not believe that the foreign secretary kept his promise. With some contemplation, she no longer felt obligated to defend the war. She believed that there was only one thing left to do. "Deputy Secretary, I have not come here to defend and justify my nation's foreign policy actions. Instead, I have come here to announce my resignation as ambassador to your great nation. Out of respect for the office of which I am resigning, I will not directly express to you my positions on recent foreign policy actions. In my place, Deputy Ambassador Meghan Greene will answer your questions." The defence minister promised Supreme Voice Blisse Starke that he would not disappoint her and the motherland. As such, he made an agreement with Point Rain Armories that he couldn't refuse. In his eyes, the agreement was necessary in order to assure the survival of the motherland and its people.

Trade Secretary Kari Markussen I assure you, esteemed delegation, that my government will accept nothing less than the status quo ante. The Valkyrian government wants a return to the pre-war trade consensus. We don't know why you have done this to our country, but if it has anything to do with the notion that this justified and lawful war will negatively affect the global economy, that statement is completely unfounded. Also, what kind of discussion do you mean to have regarding our waters? "Is that so?" asked the Deputy Secretary with a smirk. "I'm not sure how to react but, uh, this will need to run through with the President and the Valkyrian foreign ministry." The Deputy pauses and looks down before consulting the Vice President. "What do you think we should do," asked urgently the Deputy Secretary, "we cannot let her go like this, it's going to make a lot of noise!" "Just let her go, but smoothly," the Vice President replied. "Respecting your decision, the Bzerne government accepts your resignation. You have been essential to maintaining a relationship that is based on goodwill and peace, between our two countries, and we owe you our gratitude for that," stated the Deputy Secretary. "However, to prevent risks and potential issues, we respectfully ask you to remain in your post while we process your resignation and the Valkyrian Republic is able to name a new ambassador. The transition process is indeed vital to maintaining stable communications between our two states." BZERNELEG

Gerst took her seat, but wasn't listening intently on the proceedings of the meeting as she was contemplating her career as a diplomatic official. Her time in the Valkyrian Department of Foreign Affairs was coming to an end and she was disappointed that it would end like this. "Madam Deputy Ambassador, the jet and Stockholm attacks were the main justification for going to war with Hystaiga. It is still unclear on the culprit behind these attacks. Where are the Valkyrian authorities with regards to investigating these attacks?" BZERNELEG

Learning about Vanessa Gerst's opposition of the war and her resignation, the Sedunnic Military Intelligence Service (ETE) had suggested to the Sedunnic foreign minister that they should attempt to get her help in assessing if the war was justified or not, and in that case try and help end it. The foreign minister had approved the plan and suggested they would use the Sedunnic ambassador in Bzerneleg to initiate contact.
ETE personnel had put the following letter for Gerst to find at home. Not in plain sight, but not too hard to find. Dear colleague, You may find this message unsettling, but I assure that what happens next is your decision entirely, and I won't make any further attempts to contact you again. I wish to be frank and sincere and hope that after reading this, you will feel you can trust me. I contact you in this manner because it has come to my knowledge that you don't approve of your government's decision to invade Hystaiga, and I can honestly say we aren't sure about the righteousness this campaign, that is, if it's justified or a violation of international law. If it's the latter, Sedunn wants to help end this unnecessary war and hope for your help. Our sincere commitment to peace and international law should be well known. For that reason, I propose an incognito open-ended private talk. If you are interrested, please meet me here in Belmont at the "Green Tone". I'm sure you will be able to figure out exactly where I mean. You can find me there every second day at 16:00. You may use any assets you feel you can trust to verify that it's truly me you meet. With hopes of peace, Lenn Imniy Sedunnic Ambassador to Bzerneleg

The Intelligence Directorate-General has determined that Hystaiga was responsible for the 13/6 attack and the jet attack, killing 194 people and injuring many more. We have citizens who will be suffering lifelong health complications as a result of exposure to sarin gas. The Valkyrian people demanded justice and action and we are doing exactly that." If Gerst agreed to such an unauthorised meeting and was discovered, the Valkyrian government would have reason to file criminal charges against her. However, because of the friendly relationship that Sedunn and Valkyria have historically had with each other, she decided to use a few trusted contacts to confirm the letter's veracity. Ultimately, she decided to accept the meeting and left her home at the appropriate time to rendezvous with the Sedunnic ambassador. |
