Beepeean 2020 Election too close to call.

Beepeean Occasional News Corporation and Beepee Broadcasting Corporatoon have both released opinion polls for the forthcoming Beepeean general election.

BONC are predicting the Con-Dem-Aud coalition may scrape a coalition together. However, BBC are suggesting that the independent crossbench will hold the balance of power, with neither the right, nor left parties holding a majority. Although, victory is within the margin of error for both parties.

Both polls see incumbent Prime Minister Stan Bach's Conservative Party narrowly leading David Andrew's Liberal Party. However, with a substantially reduced members of parliament.

The Auphelian Democratic Party appears to have substantially increased its share of the vote as a junior member of the current coalition, if the polls bear out. The Auphelian Democrats appear to be pushing their coalition partner, the Democratic Party in a tight race for third place.

Both polls indicate as many as 1 in 8 Beepeeans have yet to make up their mind, suggesting this years election may have a low turnout, potentially benefitting smaller parties.

Aftermath

Following the election results, there intense speculation as to the outcome. The traditional coalitions both failed to achieve sufficient seats to meet the 61 seat majority.

In the afternoon of 28 January 2020, Stan Bach entered into negotiations with the Democratic Party Leader Alania Meditup, to discuss options for the parties. During the afternoon political journalists indicated that David Andrews, Leader of the Opposition, was due to hold discussions with Alania Meditup.

Beepeean Occasional News Corportation - Election coverage

The results of the 2020 Beepeean Election have resulted in political deadlock.

As expected popular Prime Minister Stan Bach's Conservative Party retained the largest number of seats, albeit with a reduced number. However, it does not appear that the current centre right Coalition has the seats to form a majority government.

David Andrew's Liberal Party saw a small increase in the number of seats, but again the centre-left parties fall short of a majority.

It is understood that Prime Minister Stan Bach has been holding talks with junior coalition partners, the Democratic Party, to form a minority government and ensure a second term. However, rumours are that opposition leader, David Andrew's, is also due to hold talks with the Democrats in bid to form a government this evening in what would be a political upset.

When asked by journalists on his way into Conservative Party headquarters, Otto Buhs, the Government Minister for Transport, stated that the mandate lies with Stan Bach and the Conservatives to form government

In the early evening of 28 Janaury, David Andrews met with Alania Meditup, however the meeting ended without agreement.

Shortly afterwards, Stan Bach announced the formation of a minority coalition government. The Conservative-Democratic-Aupehelian Democrats coalition will command 55 votes. The Seraphite Party also announced it would provide supply and support for the government.

Political Reactions

Buoyed by her parties success, The Auphelian Democrats Leader, Lady Ossetter, said "The people of Beepee are looking for moral guidance and this vote shows that strong moral values will be a key area of contention over the coming parliamentary term". Lady Ossetter also announced her party will be undertaking a recruitment drive for the next election and will contend every state.

Green Party Leader, Katrina Ouse, was delighted at picking up 5 new seats. "This vote gives the credence to the protection of environmental assets and more progressive policies. We will work with whomever forms government to hold them to a high standard", she said in what resembled a victory party in the Beepeean capital.

Nationalist Party Leader Nathalie Xi resigned as leader of the party.
