Yes, it is compulsory for a minority of people. Basically, anyone who is at the age to enter uni, who hasn't finished high-school, is enlisted. There are, of course, special circumstances, and the government is very lax about these laws.

Conscription is forbidden by the constitution of the Ryccian Federation, unless Ryccia is invaded or something.
Conscription is obligatory only in times of war in the Imperial Union.

Bruuma has universal conscription for all males and selective conscription for females when they reach 18 years old, with a minimum term of two years which can be prolonged at will by the BPDF. Extemptions are made for those whose studies or work are deemed of public utility, which includes those working full time for the WMP.
Puerto Pollo has universal conscription for all males and voluntary enrollment for females when they reach 18 years old, for a one-year term. It can be prolonged to meet the minimum numbers of troops but it has not happened as of today since the number of professional soldiers cover abundantly that requirement.

The Peocracy has a compulsory military service for all male Paeonisians and second generation permanent residents at the age of 18. A two year period is served as a full time servicemen. When they serve their two year period, they have a choice, either continue their military career as a recruit or enroll in a military university, or get out of military but considered to be "operationally ready" and classified as a "Reservist" in the reserves.
Under the Knightisian Federation, such rules might be expanded, but it is undergoing talks. So yes, a majority of the age groups is drafted.

Sovonor requires all citizens aged 17 to pass an interview and an aptitude test to determine their preferences and suitability for the mandatory year-long civil service. It can comprise various government functions, from military service to climate sciences.

The AAF is sufficiently staffed with volunteers, however, every healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 36 can be drafted if the need arises.
