[IC] TSP-SOFT Negotiations
#21

“As much as I like the idea of fining entities that charge currency conversion fees or foreign transaction fees, it creates more problems than it solves. The people, businesses, and banks still lose money as a result of the volatile exchange rate. The people will still be at the mercy of the exchange rates which still doesn’t solve the currency issue. At least with businesses and banks, they can recoup some of the lost money collecting conversion fees from travelers. Which is why we are adamant on a single currency trade union to help both people and businesses not create a situation where both are worse off, But I digress. Shall we move on to labor laws?” said Kinjishi.

"We are particularly interested in securing workers rights across the potential free trade zone," the Erinoran Sityara of Foreign Affairs affirmed. "Whilst we foresee considerable benefits for the region in irradicating trade tariffs and encouraging trade between our nations, we do not believe that the merciless machinery of modern capitalism should go unchecked. We have a moral obligation to ensure that the citizens of all of our nations are treated fairly, are given equal opportunities to find employment - which is why we believe that a freedom of movement clause would be so beneficial, although we're willing to forego this in the short term, since it appears to be contentious - and are paid a fair wage, sufficient to their needs to survive and flourish. Thus, we propose that, additional to the free trade zone, we include laws ensuring equality of employment for people of all nationalities, ethnicities, religions, orientations and genders, where no applicant to a job may be discriminated against on the basis of any of these factors.

"We would also propose a living wage be put in place across all nations within the free trade zone, ensuring that all business pay their employees, at the very least, enough to live on, according to the cost of living in their locality. Erinor is currently working on legislation to this effect for our own nation, but we want to ensure that no businesses are able to exploit their employees, whilst benefitting from freedom of trade between our nations."

"So shall we get back to discussions after our summer break?"
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

So here's where I think we are right now. I believe multiple parties are interested in free trade and free movement as long as we can ensure that trade is fair. Is that correct?
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

The Peony and her team were absent in the first discussions, and therefore were adamant to not miss this one. With swiftness and determination, they gracefully marched towards the Cabinet Room in the Elector Primos office campus. Sorrounding the delegacy are three royal martial artists with a duty to protect her majesty, and they await outside the room after being dismissed by the Peony.

The team entered, and The Peony got to her spot. She had notes from the first meeting, and after a short pray, she recalled the words taught to her by her commodore, and rose to spoke in response to the Omegan delegacy.

"Assalamualaikum, Ladies and Gentlemen, we as the Peocracy of Huawan believes that the interest of the humble Peonisians on free trade and free movement is bright. Such actions and stimulants to the economy must be regulated by an international body that provides unbinding incentives and laws unless it is per the order of the International Court. Furthermore, since governments of nations have different interests and different legal charters, it would be best to continue providing autonomy to the states that join such actions."

She continued.

"About currency, a unified currency is too premature for us, and thus agree with the notion of the exchange rate merely being regulated, but not by the banks or a single government, FOREX needs to be regulated by an international financial center in order to dispell the speculative market as inserting data for true values of currencies before the event actually occured. FOREX has been regulated and mediated by banks but as we transcended to the age of the interweb, even dealers and traders are able to trade FOREX as per the values displayed by the international regulative body."

The Peony took a drink and continued.

"There are several things that Huawan would like to see developed in SOFT, first, is the cooperation between a regulating free trade body with an international environmental protection agency in order to ensure that nature would not be harmed in the process of economical development between nations across the region, second, the idea of a unified draft on the protection of worker's rights with adherence to basic human rights that are not legally binding to a nation, third, the possibility of investment to cleaner alternatives of energy, and lastly, possibility of heavier tax for non-degradable products."

The Peony cleared her throat and drank another glass of water.

"对不起, I am not really versed in English, or Austral, as you may have called it. My words may have been spinning a bit, we hereby ask the opinions of our fellow delegates in this grand court."
